WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue wrestling team remains on the road this weekend for its second and third duals in a six-day span, heading to Maryland on Friday for a 7 p.m. ET dual at the Xfinity Center and continuing on to Rutgers on Sunday for a 1 p.m. dual at the RAC. The Boilermakers are 9-2 overall on the season and 2-1 in conference action, including a 4-0 mark on the road.
PURDUE LINEUP & RANKINGS
The Boilermakers have earned top rankings in both the tournament and dual polls, sitting as high as sixth via WIN Magazine in the tournament rankings and tabbed No. 10 in The Open Mat's dual poll. It marks the fourth straight week for Purdue in the top-10 of the tournament poll for FloWrestling and TrackWrestling. It's also the second straight year the Boilermakers have ascended to No. 13 in the NWCA Coaches Dual Rankings, their highest mark in the poll since earning a No. 12 mark on Jan. 27, 1999.
LAST TIME OUT
Purdue kept an impressive streak alive Monday, defeating intrastate rival Indiana for the 10th consecutive year with a 23-9 dual victory in Bloomington. The Boilermakers took 7-of-10 matches from the Hoosiers, including bonus-point wins at 184 and 197 points, and picked up a point in the Governor's Cup standings.
PURDUE NOTES
• Head Coach Tony Ersland was named the Midseason Coach of the Year by FloWrestling on Wednesday.
• Purdue has used seven different dual lineups in 11 contests in 2019-20. The only weights that have been consistent throughout the season are 125, 157, 174 and 184.
• The Boilermakers have won 75 of a possible 110 matches in dual competition this season.
• With his championship victory at the Midlands Championships, Lydy earned his 100th career victory and became the 17th wrestler in program history to win 100 matches at Purdue.
• Lydy won 21 straight matches to open the 2019-20 season, marking the best start for a Boilermaker since Chris Fleeger opened the 2002-03 season 32-0 at 125 pounds.
• Lydy is 1-of-8 wrestlers in the last 10 years to win both the CKLV Invitational and the Ken Kraft Midlands Championships in the same season.
