Boilermaker Quartet Finishes NBA Summer League Play

Four former Purdue players saw their time in the NBA Summer League end over the weekend.

LAS VEGAS – Four former Purdue players saw their time in Las Vegas end over the weekend as part of NBA Summer League action.

Led by Carsen Edwards, the quartet will now look to make an impact with their respective teams during training camp.

Edwards, a rookie with the Boston Celtics, made a big impact in helping Boston go 4-0 in pool play and capture the No. 1 seed for the NBA Summer League playoffs. During his five-game run, Edwards averaged 19.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.0 steals per game in just 22.6 minutes per outing. He shot 34 of 71 (.479) from the field and 21 of 45 (.467) from 3-point range.

He scored at least 20 points three different times, including a 25-point outburst in the playoffs against Memphis when he made 6 of 14 long-range attempts while adding eight rebounds. He scored 23 points in a win over Denver (5 of 7 from 3-point range) and 20 points in the Summer League opener against Philadelphia.

Late last week, Edwards signed a three-year deal worth a reported 4.5 million dollars, with a team option for a fourth year. It is a rarity for a second-round pick to receive a contract offer like that.

Dakota Mathias appeared in five games for the Los Angeles Lakers, averaging 5.2 points, 2.8 rebounds, 0.8 assists and 0.8 steals per game in 19.0 minutes per contest. Mathias scored 10 points in games against Golden State (July 12) and in the opener against Chicago (July 5).

Caleb Swanigan appeared in three games for the Sacramento Kings, averaging 3.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game.

Vince Edwards appeared in two games for the Houston Rockets, averaging 1.0 points and 1.0 rebounds per game.

NBA training camps are slated to open in late September.
