WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Head coach Drew Roff announced the 2019 Purdue women's soccer schedule, featuring 11 appearances at the Boilermakers' own Folk Field.
"It's a great schedule that will challenge us and prepare us for our ultimate goal: making it to the NCAA tournament," Roff said. "We always try to test ourselves at the highest level possible during the non-conference, and we will be doing just that by opening the first couple weekends with two SEC schools and two Big 12 programs."
Eight of Purdue's 11 opponents are coming off an NCAA postseason appearance. Included in the Boilermakers homestand is South Carolina and Big Ten foe Penn State, which earned an NCAA quarterfinals appearance a season ago. The Penn State game will serve as Purdue's final regular season game at Folk Field.
Purdue will face seven non-conference opponents before B1G action begins Friday, Sept. 20 with Nebraska at home. A year ago, the Boilermakers recorded the second-smallest scoring margin against Big Ten opponents in program history, with 10 of 11 B1G games being decided by one point or less. The 2019 schedule will have conference games run through Sunday, Oct. 27, where the Boilermakers will close the regular season against in-state foe Indiana on the road. This will mark just the second time in over 10 years and the first time since 2015 that the two teams will clash in the Boilermakers' regular season finale.
A total of four games will be played at home under the lights with 7 p.m. ET starts for each. Big Ten matchups against Nebraska on Friday, Sept. 20 and Ohio State on Thursday, Oct. 10 are included for the Boilermakers.
Featured during the non-conference slate is the Boilermaker Challenge Cup on Sept. 6 and Sept. 8 as South Carolina, Kansas and DePaul descend on West Lafayette for a round-robin style tournament. A total of four games will be played at Folk Field, with Purdue facing South Carolina on Friday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. ET and Kansas on Sunday, Sept. 8 at 2 p.m. ET.
While the official season will begin Thursday, August 22 versus Georgia, the Boilermakers will host two exhibition games to prepare for the year: Aug. 13 versus UW-Milwaukee and Aug. 17 versus Xavier. Both preseason matches will begin at 5 p.m. ET.
Senior Day is set for Sunday, Sept. 22 versus Iowa while Purdue soccer Alumnae Day is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 13 versus the Nittany Lions.
The 2019 roster will return all but one starter after graduating Dannah Williams and Hannah Mussallem. Five of six players who appeared in every game (Sarah Clark, Kylie Hase, Hannah Melchiorre, Skylurr Patrick and Ena Sabanagic), including three who started in every game (Clark, Hase, Patrick), also are set to return to the squad.
In addition to returning one of the youngest starting lineups in Purdue history, Hannah Lapeire, Leanna Rebimbas, Sydney Sparks, Emma Tompkins, Ashley Witucki and Chloe Woodbeck are set to join to the team as the incoming freshman class.
Admission is free to all Purdue soccer games.
