HARTFORD, Conn. – The Purdue men's basketball team had its first glimpse of the XL Center as it went through its final preparations for Thursday's NCAA first-round contest against Old Dominion.
The Boilermakers went through an hour walkthrough at the University of St. Joseph's, coached by Jim Calhoun, before practicing for 40 minutes on the XL Center floor that was preceeded by through media obligations.
Thursday's contest will be televised on TBS with Carter Blackburn, Debbie Antonelli and John Schriffen calling the action courtside beginning at approximately 9:50 p.m. ET. On the radio waves, the contest will be available on the Purdue Radio Network with Larry Clisby and Rob Blackman on the call, beginning with the Purdue Basketball pregame show at 9 p.m. Wes Scott will produce the radio broadcast. Due to contractual obligations, Purdue's radio broadcast will not be available on TuneIn.com or SIRIUS / XM Satellite Radio. The Westwood One national radio broadcast will be available on those entities.
PURDUE'S THREE NCAA NUGGETS
1) While talking to the TBS announcing crew, Purdue head coach Matt Painter revealed he was recruited by current Old Dominion head coach Jeff Jones in high school. Jones was an assistant coach at Virginia while recruiting Painter at Delta High School.
2) Purdue's Matt Painter is making his 12th NCAA Tournament appearance in 15 seasons as a head coach. The 12 appearances are the most for an active coach under the age of 55 (Mick Cronin, Sean Miller, Jamie Dixon, Mark Gottfried all have 11).
3) Purdue needs two victories to become the seventh active program to have won at least 25 games in four straight seasons (Villanova, Kansas, North Carolina, Gonzaga, Kentucky, Duke).
