ORLANDO, Fla. - The 25th-ranked Purdue women's golf team opened its spring schedule Sunday, shooting two-under par 286 in the first round of the 2019 UCF Challenge, hosted by the Knights at Eagle Creek Golf Club. Junior Micaela Farah turned in the low score of the day, shooting three-under 69 and sitting in a tie for eighth place in the individual standings.
The Boilermakers are seven shots of the team lead, held by College of Charleston after the opening round at nine-under 279. Farah dropped four birdies on the day, with her only mishap coming on No. 1. She recovered from the bogey and finished with birdies on two of her final three holes.
Freshman Danielle du Toit joined Farah under par, shooting one-under 71. The Boilermaker rookie picked up from her outstanding fall, making three birdies, but suffering a double bogey on No. 18 to even out her card.
Senior Covadonga SanJuan and sophomore Inez Wanamarta tied for the final two team scores at one-over 73. SanJuan had four birdies on the back nine, while Wanamarta was steady throughout the round with 17 pars. Senior Ida Ayu Indira Melati Putri was just out of the team score at two-over 74.
Seven players are tied for the individual lead at four-under par with Farah one shot back alongside eight others.
Purdue resumes play Monday at 8:45 a.m. ET, going off on holes 7-9 with Michigan State and Penn State.
