Along with his accomplishments on the field, Lindblom is active in the Greater Lafayette community via The Josh Lindblom Foundation. A pitcher for the Boilermakers from 2007 to 2008, the West Lafayette native made his big league debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2011. Along with being the 2019 MVP of the KBO, Lindblom also won consecutive Choi Dong-won (Cy Young equivalent) and Golden Glove (all-pro equivalent) awards the last two seasons in South Korea. As an international free agent, he's returning MLB for the 2020 campaign after signing a multi-year contract with the Milwaukee Brewers in December.
The Boilermakers open official preseason practice Jan. 24, three weeks before the national opening day of the 2020 season – Friday, Feb. 14. Purdue is led by first-year head coach Greg Goff, who was the driving force behind the creation of the First Pitch Dinner when it debuted prior to the 2019 campaign. Goff has won over 450 games as a collegiate head coach at Campbell, Louisiana Tech, Alabama and Montevallo. He originally joined the program as an assistant coach in July 2017.
Over 40 program alumni – including big leaguers Kevin Plawecki, Nick Wittgren, Bernie Allen and Jermaine Allensworth – RSVP'd yes for the 2019 First Pitch Dinner. To accommodate the size of the event, it was moved from the Buchanan Club in the Ross-Ade Stadium Pavilion to Holloway and still sold out the allotted tickets by Jan. 11.
The Boilermakers have earmarked the morning of Saturday, Feb. 8 for their preseason fan fest inside the Mollenkopf Athletic Center. The popular free event features skill stations and other indoor activities for children as well as autograph opportunities.
