WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – As the Purdue women's basketball team ventures to Florida for the Gulf Coast Showcase this weekend in Estero, the Boilermakers were announced as part of the field for the 2020 Cancun Challenge next November by host Triple Crown Sports.
The eight-team field will feature Florida State, Houston, Iowa, Northeastern, USC, Toledo and VCU. Two more teams slated to be announced at a later date once contracts are completed.
The 2020 edition will make the Boilermakers' fourth appearance at the event. Purdue is 6-1 all-time at the Cancun Challenge, winning the event in 2011. The last time Purdue featured in the event, the Boilermakers fell in the Mayan division championship game of the 2016 Triple Crown Sports Cancun Challenge to No. 11 Stanford.
All games at the Cancun Challenge will take place in a modified ball room at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya, which will keep teams and fans within walking distance from their rooms, pools and games.
Purdue will open the 2019 Gulf Coast Challenge on Friday at 7:30 p.m. against Drake. All games this weekend will be streamed through FloHoops and on the radio on 95.3 BOB FM
