WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue Track & Field/Cross Country Head Coach Norbert Elliott was named the Earle Hayes Award Great Lakes Region Men's Coach of the Year.
The award was announced by the USTFCCCA following Purdue's team victory at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Nov. 15. The Boilermakers solidified the title with 79 points for its first regional victory in program history and as the only program to score all five of the team's fastest runners in the top-24.
Not only are the Boilermakers ranked No. 10 in the USTFCCCA national poll following the meet, but Purdue earned its highest poll ranking in program history this season after checking in as high as No. 9 on Oct. 22.
Purdue will close out the cross country season with the NCAA Championships on Saturday, Nov. 23 in Terre Haute, Indiana.
Elliott is in his second year as head coach of the Boilermakers. Elliott, with notable help from Cross Country Assistant Coach John Oliver, the Purdue men have earned a NCAA Championships bid each year, marking the first set of back-to-back seasons the men have competed since the 1985-86 seasons.
The award also marks the second consecutive year a Boilermaker has earned a regional honor. A year ago, Jaret Carpenter was named NCAA Great Lakes Region Men's Runner of the Year following his first-place finish at the regional.
