WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Maksymilian Raupuk and Tomasz Dudek captured the Purdue men's tennis team's first title of the 2019 fall season on Sunday at the Purdue Invitational.
The Polish duo clinched the B doubles draw over Louisville's tandem of Matthew Fung and Tin Chen in the final round. Raupuk and Dudek saw trailed 6-5 during the match but rallied to oust the Cardinals 7-6(4).
Sunday was the lone time this weekend that the Purdue pairing faced a tiebreak in doubles. In their three previous matches, they clinched 6-4 over Valparaiso, 6-3 against Army and 6-4 against the No. 2-seeded DePaul team.
Athell Bennett and Mateo Julio continue their preparations for the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. Julio will play on Monday in the qualifying singles round, and Bennett will appear in his first match in the main draw later in the week. Julio will face Lukas Greif from Florida, the No. 12 seed, on Monday morning.
