MADISON, Wis. – The best of the best will descend on the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course as 40 nationally ranked programs will compete at the Nuttycombe Invitational on Friday.
The women are slated to run first at 1:20 p.m. ET in the 6,000-meter run. Meanwhile the men will follow at 2 p.m. ET. Fans can watch live via FloTrack ($).
Off to its best start in program history, the men enter the meet with its highest poll ranking in program history, checking in at No. 11 in the nation. Among the teams competing at Nuttycombe, the men will face six programs ranked in the top 10 in the nation, including No. 1 Northern Arizona.
The Boilermakers are coming off a historic performance at the Joe Piane Invite at Notre Dame, where the men saw three place among the top 20 and five among the top 76. Jaret Carpenter ran the fastest five-mile race of his collegiate career to lead the Boilermakers with 13th-place with a time of 23:35.41. Brody Smith and Curt Eckstein were close behind in 16th and 20th-place respectively.
Meanwhile, the women will be sending 11 runners, including Jenna Halderman, Megan Slamkowski and Isabelle Sparreo.
At the loaded Joe Piane Invite, the women placed 20th overall, led by Halderman in 66th-place. The redshirt-senior shaved off 42 seconds from her previous 5k time, ran earlier this season at the John McNichols Invite, to lead the way.
A year ago, the men snagged ninth-place at Nuttycombe, led by Carpenter with a 14th-place finish of 23:38.5. The women placed 22nd overall in a field that saw 40 percent of the top 20 teams in the nation.
