WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Big Ten Conference announced that quarterback Jack Plummer is the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week and wide receiver David Bell the Big Ten Freshman of the Week. The honor is the first for both players in their collegiate careers.
Plummer completed 33 of 41 passes to break the school completion record for over 40 passing attempts at 80.5 against Maryland. The redshirt freshman threw for 420 yards and three touchdowns in Purdue's 40-14 homecoming win over the Terrapins. Plummer's completion percentage was fifth in school history for any quarterback attempting 20 or more passes in a game. Curtis Painter held the previous completion percentage record with 40-49 pass attempts when he connected on 38 of 49 passes (77.6) against Eastern Illinois in 2007.
Bell caught nine of Plummer's passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns. His yardage total was fourth by a true freshman in a game in school history. Bell is the only freshman nationally this year with at least 130 yards, nine catches and two touchdowns in the same game.
The Boilermakers had a school-record 10 players earn conference weekly honors last season.
