WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Under the lights of Folk Field, the Purdue women's soccer team (6-5-3, 2-3-2) notched its eighth shutout of the season with its nil-nil draw versus Ohio State (4-7-2, 2-3-1) Thursday night. With the result, Purdue tied for the fourth-most shutouts in program history (matching 2000, 2003, 2004).
Additionally, it is the most in a single season since the Boilermakers set the program record of 14 in 2007.
Highlighting the team's effort was Skylurr Patrick, Sydney Duarte and Hannah Melchiorre. While Melchiorre posted a team-high four shots, including two on-frame, Patrick was just behind her with three and numerous stellar stops defensively. Meanwhile, Duarte caused a ruckus in midfield, after creating ample turnovers and setting up many of Purdue's dangerous opportunities.
Led by their efforts, Purdue out-shot Ohio State 18-10, including 3-1 in overtime. Additionally, the Boilermakers forced nine saves by the Buckeye keepers.
Ten Boilermakers registered a shot in the stalemate, marking the most in a single game since 11 players tallied at least one shot against Kansas (9/8).
The overtime marked the third of the season for Purdue, all of which has ended in draws. Furthermore, Purdue notched double-digit shots seven times this season and its 18 shots on the evening is the second-most this season.
Purdue will host its final regular-season game Sunday at 11 a.m. ET versus Penn State. The game will serve as the Alumnae Day, where 19 alums will be honored at halftime.
