Boilers Victorious Over Jaguars

The Purdue men's tennis team defeated IUPUI 6-1 on Sunday.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's tennis team was back at the Schwartz Tennis Center on Sunday for a dual against IUPUI. The Boilermakers defeated the Jaguars 6-1.

Here's how it happened. 

Senior Dominik Sochurek paired up with junior Athell Bennett to complete the first doubles match. The pair defeated Grant Weaver and Kyle Whittaker 6-0. The second pair to finish was Mateo Julio and Maksymilian Raupuk. The duo defeated Colton Morehart and Alex Jochim 6-3 to gain the advantage going into singles play. The result left newcomer Santiago Galan and Stephan Koenigsfest with an unfinished 4-3 match against Sean Bailey and Eric Hollingsworth.

There were multiple big wins for the Boilermakers in singles play. Mateo Julio found success against the Jaguars, defeating Morehart 6-1, 6-1. Koenigsfest defeated Eric Hollingsworth 6-2, 6-2. Franz Luna defeated Rodney Steven 6-1, 6-2.

Galan fought hard to the end to win set two in a close call, defeating Grant Weaver 6-1, 7-6

Bringing home the last point at the No. 1 spot was Bennett. He defeated Jochim 6-1, 7-5 to end the match. 

The Boilermakers (2-1) are back home at Schwartz for their next two matches Feb. 2. They will play a doubleheader, facing Marquette at 11 a.m. ET and Green  Bay at 3 p.m.
