ALL ABOUT MINNESOTA
The Golden Gophers enter Thursday's matchup at 13-5 overall and 2-5 in Big Ten play, falling in five of their last six games after a 12-0 start to the season. Minnesota climbed as high as No. 12 in the AP Poll this season and is still receiving votes in both the AP and USA Today/Coaches Poll. First-year head coach Lindsay Whalen returns to her alma mater after a successful professional career that included four WNBA Championships with the Minnesota Lynx. Whalen was 2-4 in her playing career against the Boilermakers, upsetting a higher-ranked Purdue squad in Williams Arena in 2002 (73-64) and 2003 (90-75). The Golden Gophers are one of the nation's top team at getting to the free throw line, leading the Big Ten and ranking second in the NCAA with 443 trips to the charity stripe, including 301 makes, good for fourth in the nation. Minnesota lead conference play in rebounding margin, edging opponents by 4.3 per game and have the best offensive rebounding percentage in Big Ten action, hauling in 39.6 percent of their misses. Redshirt senior Kenisha Bell is one of the nation's top point guards, averaging 18.9 points per game, good for third in the Big Ten, and is tied for the conference lead with 2.1 steals per game. Bell has shot the third-most free throws of any player in the nation, getting to the stripe 8.1 times per game and converts 69.2 percent.
