22 Punchouts for Purdue Pitching in Fall Ball Win

Three different pitchers struck out the side in an inning as Purdue baseball racked up 22 punchouts in a 17-0 exhibition-game victory vs. the Ontario Nationals on Friday at Alexander Field.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.
– Three different pitchers struck out the side in an inning as Purdue baseball racked up 22 punchouts in a 17-0 exhibition-game victory vs. the Ontario Nationals 18U travel team Friday at Alexander Field.

The Boilermakers scored 11 times over the first two innings. Kyle LaPlante's solo home run to left field in the second inning headlined the three extra-base hits Purdue recorded while racing out to the big lead.

DOMINANT OUTINGS ON THE MOUND
Dalton Parker struck out the side in order on 11 pitches to begin the game. Kyle Wade finished the night for Purdue pitching by doing likewise with 10 pitches. Parker struck out five of the six batters he faced over two perfect innings.
Cory Brooks registered all six of his outs via punchouts. He gave up hits to the first and seventh batters he faced, striking out five straight in between. The right-hander fanned the visitors' 3-4-5 hitters in order in the top of the fourth.

MORE BIG SWINGS
Miles Simington and Johnny Sage connected for consecutive gappers in the first inning. Simington delivered an opposite-field, two-run double to left center and Sage followed with an RBI triple to right center.
Bryce Bonner powered a pitch to the wall in left center for a two-out triple in the ninth inning.
LaPlante scored three times and Simington finished the night with three RBI while reaching base safely in all three of his plate appearances. Blake Schmitt also reached safely three times.

ADDITIONAL NOTEWORTHY MOMENTS
Eric Hildebrand and Conner Tomasic teamed up for consecutive 1-2-3 innings in the sixth and seventh. They both struck out a pair.
Jake Parr (first base), LaPlante (shortstop) and Brunt (pitcher) turned a nice 3-6-1 double play in the eighth inning.
Michael Bolton opened the bottom of the seventh with a perfectly executed bunt single up the third base line, getting an opportunity to show off his impressive speed. The freshman looks poised to be Purdue's fastest base runner this year.
The Boilermakers utilized a separate nine-man defensive alignment and batting order throughout the game. Lineup changes went into effect midway through the fifth inning. Numerous players who started the game in the batting order later moved into the field for the final four innings and vice versa.
