Duo to Compete in Davis Cup

Franz Luna and Arslan Orashev will make their international debuts in 2019 Davis Cup next week for Guatemala and Turkmenistan.

A pair of Purdue men's tennis players will head out on international duty next week to participate in the 2019 Davis Cup. Franz Luna and Arslan Orashev will make their Davis Cup debuts for their home nations of Guatemala and Turkmenistan, respectively.

Luna and Guatemala will square off with Bolivia as the No. 3 seed in the Americas Group II. Professional Wilfredo Gonzalez will lead the Guatemalan side that includes former UAB standout Stefan Gonzalez. Guatemala holds a 5-4 advantage all-time against Bolivia. The tie is set for Sept. 13-14 in Guatemala City. With a win, Luna and Guatemala will advance to the Group I Play-offs.

Orashev's first time playing for his country will take place in Jordan. Playing in the Asia/Oceanic Group IV, Turkmenistan will play either two or three matches in a round robin during the week of Sept. 9. Four teams will advance to a pair of promotional play-off matches, with the two winners qualifying for Group III in 2020.
