WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue women's soccer team hits the road for its first set of away games. The first stop for the Boilermakers (2-0-0) will be Chicago, where the DePaul Blue Demons (0-2-0) are set to host Purdue on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 5 p.m. ET. Then, Purdue will travel to Ames, Iowa, to play Iowa State on Sunday, Sept.

In the first United Soccer Coaches Poll of the season, Purdue received three votes, which comes on the heels of two shutouts: a 1-0 victory over Georgia and a 4-0 win over Toledo at Folk Field.

Additionally, 6-2 goalkeeper Marisa Bova notched her second and third career shutouts. With Bova's help, Purdue was the only Big Ten program to produce two shutouts over the weekend and with the accomplishment, she was named Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week.
 
New Faces
  • The Boilermakers welcomed six freshmen to the program:
  • Aside from goalkeeper Marisa Bova, center back defender Sparks leads the team with 174 minutes played.
  • Chloe Woodbeck added significant minutes as well, clocking in 123 minutes on the pitch.
  • While Sparks and Woodbeck have started both matches, Rebimbas made the start in the win vs. Georgia.
  • Rebimbas secured two assists vs. Toledo, aiding the goals by Teagan Jones and Ena Sabanagic.
 
No Luck Needed
  • Purdue produced four goals in the 4-0 shutout against Toledo, marking the most goals Purdue has scored in a game since 9/17/17 (at Michigan State, W 6-2).
  • Three of Purdue's four goals came within six minutes of each other, while all four were within 17 minutes.
  • Two goals came within 55 seconds, tying the second fastest set of goals in program history. It was the fastest since the record was set in 2012 (48 seconds vs. Toledo, 8/17/12)
  • Scorers: Hannah Melchiorre (fifth career goal), Teagan Jones (second), Ally Mussallem (first) and Ena Sabanagic (fourth).
 
Scouting DePaul (0-2-0)
  • DePaul opened its season at home against Milwaukee and SMU and suffed a 2-1 loss in each game.
  • Against SMU, defender Jessica Lazo scored DePaul's lone goal.
  • Kristin Boos netted the DePaul goal vs. Milwaukee.
  • In the season-opener vs. Milwaukee, all three goals came in the second half.
  • In exhibition play, the Blue Demons traveled Northwestern and Wisconsin, where it fell to the Wildcats 1-0 and the Badgers 3-1.
 
Scouting Iowa State (1-1-0)
  • Iowa State is coming off a pair of road games, opening the season at No. 4 UCLA (L, 3-0) and at UC Irvine (W, 1-0), where Kennady Adams scored for the Cyclones.
  • Meanwhile Hannah Cade leads the team with three shots on the season.
  • The 2019 Cyclones will be a young squad, with 21 of 31 players on the roster being underclassmen, including 11 true freshmen. Iowa State will be looking to replace a seven-player senior class that included all three 2018 team captains.
  • The Cyclones return 11 of 18 goals from a season ago, including the junior duo of Kassi Ginther and Courtney Powell. Ginther led the team and was T-No. 3 in the Big 12 in goals scored in conference play in 2018 with four, the most among league underclassmen. Ginther also ranked No. 2 on the team with nine points a season ago.
 
The Rewind: Purdue 2, Iowa State 1 (Aug. 26, 2018)
  • In a dramatic finish, the Boilermakers edged out the Cyclones with just 49 seconds remaining in the game.
  • Iowa State was the first to score in the 41st-minute. Kara Privitera earned the goal, while Brianna Curtis assisted.
  • The equalizer came from Sarah Clark on a penalty kick in the 84th minute and marked her second of three penalty kicks in 2018.
  • On the game-winner, Iowa State fouled Purdue. Clark took the free kick, and was able to find Kylie Hase for the goal. Hase's goal marked the first of six consecutive games she scored in, the most in program history.
  • Purdue earned an 8-3 corner kick advantage and forced the Cyclones to make six saves, all of which came in the second half.
