Purdue Rockets Past Toledo

Four first-half goals power Purdue past Toledo 4-0.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue Boilermakers closed out the opening weekend of soccer action with a 4-0 shutout against Toledo on Sunday at Folk Field.

The game-winner came in the 23rd minute when Hannah Melchiorre took the shot from the top of the box. Meanwhile, the final three came within six minutes of play. Teagan Jones netted the second Boilermaker goal, finding assists from Ally Musallem and Leanna Rebimbas. Just 55 seconds later, Mussallem took one for herself, tallying the first goal of her career. Ena Sabanagic rounded out the Purdue points in the 40th minute, following passes by Sydney Duarte and Leanna Rebimbas.

The four Boilermaker goals mark the most in a game since Sept. 17, 2017, a 6-2 victory at Michigan State. With all of them coming in the first half, the game also marks the 10th time the Boilermakers have scored as many as four in a half, with the last time occurring against Dartmouth on Sept. 6, 2013 (second half).

With the win, goalkeeper Marisa Bova notched her second consecutive shutout and third of her career. Mussallem led the team with three points in 28 minutes of play.
