Brees became the most-prolific passer in NFL history Oct. 9, 2018. In the New Orleans Saints' 43-19 win over the Washington Redskins, the 18-year veteran broke the NFL career passing yards record. Brees also holds NFL career marks for completions, completion percentage and total offense, and he entered the 2019 season ranked second with 520 passing touchdowns, behind only Peyton Manning (539). On Oct. 21, 2018, when the Saints beat the Baltimore Ravens 24-23, Brees joined Brett Favre and Manning as the only three quarterbacks to have a victory against all 32 current NFL teams.
Kerrigan is a four-time Pro Bowl selection (2012, 2016, 2017 and 2018) as a linebacker, and his 84.5 sacks ranked second in Redskins' annals through the 2018 season, trailing only Dexter Manley (91.0). Kerrigan is tremendously active in the community. In 2013, he launched Ryan Kerrigan's Blitz for the Better Foundation, which provides opportunities, support and resources to children and families in need in the Washington metropolitan area. He returns to West Lafayette each May to participate in the Ryan Kerrigan/12th Boiler Golf Outing, which raises money for Purdue Athletics scholarships. Kerrigan was the Redskins' Walter Payton Man of the Year in 2015.
Short is regarded as one the NFL's premier interior defensive lineman. The 44th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, Short earned his second Pro Bowl appearance in 2018. Since 2015, he has recorded 27.5 sacks, tied for the third-most in the NFL by a defensive tackle. Short ranked sixth in Carolina Panthers history with 32.5 career sacks through the 2018 season.
Mostert had a breakout season in 2018 with a career-high 261 rushing yards. He also topped the San Francisco 49ers with seven special teams tackles. Mostert earned the 49ers' Perry/Yonamine Award for exhibiting exceptional commitment to promoting unity within the team and in the community.
The 100th season of the NFL begins Sept. 5.
