WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue Trustees on Friday gave approval to plan a renovation to Ross-Ade Stadium. They also approved the planning, financing, constructing and awarding of a construction contract for a new video board in the south end zone.

The board delegated to Purdue treasurer and chief financial officer Bill Sullivan the authority to select, retain and contract with an architectural/engineering firm to provide planning services for the Ross-Ade renovation project, which would enhance the stadium appearance and the gameday experience for fans. Highlighted by an open concourse and more diverse seating options, the potential project could encompass three main components - replacement of the upper bowl, upgrades to the pavilion and construction of an additional south end zone building - and would be completed in phases as gift funding and final trustees approval allow.

"The transformation of Ross-Ade Stadium is an important step in strengthening Purdue's national prominence," Purdue vice president and director of intercollegiate athletics Mike Bobinski said. "It's far more than just a football project; this initiative will have a broad university and community impact. It's our responsibility to make sure that Ross-Ade is programmatically and structurally positioned to support high-level success for the next 30-plus years. We get one opportunity to do this right, so we need to be smart, efficient and focused on maximizing the impact of our investment."

The new south end zone video board, which will be larger and provide a clearer picture, will replace the current smaller, aging video board. Demolition of the current board is expected to begin in December of 2019 at the conclusion of the 2019 football season, with the new video board in place by the summer of 2020.

For this season, a 10-foot high by 375-foot wide video ribbon board is being added at the north end of Ross-Ade. Branding and signage enhancements are being made to the concourse.
