WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue added a key component to the future of Boilermaker softball with the signing of Georgia Tech outfielder Skye Webb, head coach Boo De Oliveira announced Thursday.
"I chose Purdue because of its great academics and beautiful facilities," Webb said. "I'm most excited for the opportunity to play in the Big Ten conference and for a great coaching staff, who I believe will both challenge me and develop me so that I can be the best player I can be."
Webb will be immediately eligible for the Boilermakers beginning the fall of 2019. The lefty slapper played all 57 games in 2019 for the Yellow Jackets, recording 53 hits, 41 runs, 34 RBI and a team-best 12 stolen bases. As a freshman, Webb saw action in 32 games, scoring six runs for Georgia Tech.
"Skye [Webb] has a lot of offensive tools," De Oliveira said. "She is a true powerful triple threat with base stealing potential that will add to our depth in the outfield. She is very competitive and has a strong drive to win. She was successful in the ACC and we are excited to see her continue being successful at the Power Five level."
Out of high school, Webb was a highly touted recruit, receiving seven offers from schools in the SEC, ACC, Big Ten, Mountain West and Big Sky Conferences. A four-year letterwinner at Temecula Valley High School, Webb earned multiple distinctions, including second-team all-league and 2015 MVP, while setting the Golden Bears' record for most career stolen bases. In addition to softball, Webb played one year of high school volleyball and served as an assistant coach with the Temecula All-Stars and Rays Baseball.
