2019 Purdue Volleyball Schedule | Ticket Information
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Continuing its tradition of competitive slates, the No. 17 Purdue volleyball team is set to challenge 10 NCAA Tournament teams for 2019, including seven that advanced to the Sweet 16 and were ranked in the final AVCA Top 25 poll.
The 29-game regular season schedule features 13 contests against opponents that earned bids to the 2018 NCAA Tournament. Those opponents include Eastern Michigan, Illinois (NCAA semifinalist), Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan, Minnesota, Murray State, Nebraska (NCAA Championship runner up), Penn State (NCAA semifinalist) and Wisconsin (NCAA semifinalist).
Through the regular season, Purdue will play 15 matches in the friendly confines of Holloway Gymnasium, while hitting the road for 14. Aside from Indiana, the Boilermakers touch down in 10 different states, including a tournament in Tennessee and a pair of matches in Illinois and Michigan.
Before the season starts, the team will hold a couple of intersquad contests, with the Boilermaker Tune-Up and the Gold and Black Scrimmage set for Aug. 17 and Aug. 24, respectively. Both scrimmages will be held at Holloway Gymnasium with free attendance.
Purdue officially opens the season with a duo of home matches against Ohio (Sept. 1) and Ball State (Sept. 3) before visiting South Bend to face Notre Dame (Sept. 6). The Boilermakers continue on the road with a trip to Nashville, Tennessee, for Lipscomb's LUV Invitational (Sept. 13-14), before heading to Lexington, Kentucky, for a rematch against the reigning SEC Champion Kentucky (Sept. 18). Purdue will look to redeem itself from a three-set loss against the Wildcats in the second round of the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
The Boilermakers conclude non-conference action with its annual Stacey Clark Classic (Sept 20-21). This year, Purdue welcomes Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and NCAA Tournament qualifiers Eastern Michigan and Murray State. Last season, Eastern Michigan made history with its first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament after winning the Mid-American Conference Tournament championship 3-2 over Miami University. Meanwhile, Murray State earned its fourth postseason bid with a sweep against Austin Peay in the OVC Tournament championship match.
For the first time since 2015, Purdue hits off the Big Ten season on the road when it heads north to challenge Wisconsin (Sept. 27) and Minnesota (Sept. 28). The Boilermakers return home to host Northwestern (Oct. 4) and Illinois (Oct. 5), before hitting the road for another four. Purdue is scheduled to visit rival Indiana (Oct. 9), Northwestern (10/12), Nebraska (10/16) and Ohio State (10/19).
The Boilermakers are then home for four, welcoming Iowa (Oct. 25), Nebraska (Oct. 26), Indiana (Oct. 30) and Minnesota (Nov. 2) to Holloway Gymnasium.
Purdue travels to Rutgers (Nov. 8) and Penn State (Nov. 9), before closing out the home season against Ohio State (Nov. 15), Maryland (Nov.16), Rutgers (Nov. 20) and Michigan (Nov. 23).
Head coach Dave Shondell and the Boilermakers then wrap up the regular season at Michigan (Nov. 27) and Michigan State (Nov. 29).
Purdue returns 10 players from the 2018 team, which went 24-10, finished sixth in the Big Ten and advanced to the NCAA second round. Seven true freshmen will join the group in Maddy Chinn, Emma Ellis, Maddie Koch, Megan Renner, Maddie Schermerhorn and Ava Torrence. Earlier this year, the group of newcomers was recognized as the eighth-best recruiting class in the nation by PrepVolleyball.
