WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue senior Silvia Ambrosio received an at large bid for the 2019 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championships. The tournament will be hosted in Orlando, Florida, at the University of Central Florida and the Greater Orlando Sports Commission from May 20 to 25, after the conclusion of the team championships.
Ambrosio is currently ranked No. 33 in the country. Earlier this seaosn, she achieved the highest singles ranking in school history at No. 9. Boasting a 10-2 Big Ten record Ambrosio boasted a nine-match winning streak into the second round of the Big Ten Tournament, where she fell to No. 3 Kate Fahey.
The committee selected 64 individuals and 32 doubles teams to compete. In singles play, six players from the Big Ten will compete, including the automatic bid. Every match will be the best-of-three sets, with no-ad scoring and a seven-point tiebreak (first to seven points, must win by two points).
The last Boilermaker to earn a singles bid the NCAA Championships was Jennifer Embry in 1999.
