T&F Opens Drake Relays with 4 Wins

The Purdue track and field team concluded Friday's Drake Relay events with four victories and an additional five Purdue performance list marks.

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Purdue track and field team concluded Friday's Drake Relay events with four victories and an additional four Purdue performance list marks.

First-place finishes were notched in the women's 800-meter unseeded and 5,000-meter unseeded while the men won the javelin and triple jump.

The men's efforts were led by Michael Weller, who produced a victory in the javelin throw with a mark of 223-03.00/68.04-meters, the farthest throw by a Boilermaker in 16 years. With the distance, Weller added over four meters to his personal-best to become the No. 2 thrower in Purdue event history.

Fire and Ice were at it again, snagging a 1-2 finish in the men's triple jump with a pair of personal-bests, Boilermaker record book distances and NCAA top 10 marks. Jah Strange jumped to No. 4 in program history and T-No. 8 in the nation with his winning jump of 53-04.50/16.19-meters, adding 0.2 meters onto his previous-best. Tamar Greene followed closely behind with a best jump of 53-00.75/16.17-meters to enter the Purdue performance list at No. 5 all-time and register as the No. 10 jumper in the nation.

Brittney Campbell and Megan Slamkowski produced the first victories of the Drake Relays on Thursday, with wins in the 800-meter unseeded and 5,000-meter unseeded race, respectively. Campbell won her event in 2:07.94, which registered as a personal-best and the No. 10-fastest time by a Boilermaker.

Camille Christopher also picked up third-place in the 200-meter finals with a time of 23.91 seconds, which improves upon her personal-best by 0.04 seconds. The time holds her steady as No. 10 in program history. Additionally, the freshman will represent the Boilermakers in the 100-meter dash finals, after running the second-fastest qualifying time during prelims (11:61 seconds).

Both the men's and women's 4x100-meter relays will look to defend their titles Saturday after qualifying in prelims. The women's team secured the second-fastest time of the day, with the team of Autumn Heath, Myia Dorsey, Sekayi Bracey and Christopher winning their heat in 45.93 seconds. Meanwhile, Tamar Greene, Samson Colebrooke, Justin Becker and Waseem Williams were timed at 39.96 seconds to qualify with the fourth-fastest time. The 4x100 relay finals are slated to start at 4:20 p.m. ET Saturday.
