WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Boilermakers (6-8, 0-3) host two Big Ten opponents this weekend at Schwartz Tennis Center. The Boilermakers take on No. 21 Michigan (10-5, 1-2) on Saturday and Michigan State (6-12, 0-3) on Sunday. Both matches start at noon ET.
Purdue comes off of a tough loss, after falling to No. 13 Illinois 4-0 on March 24. The Boilermakers look to upset No. 21 Michigan and claim their first win over a ranked foe this season.
Two ranked singles players will debut this weekend with Michigan's No. 46 Mattias Siimar, and Michigan State's No. 95 Jack Winkler.
Series History
In four of the last five meetings, Michigan has been ranked No. 49 or better. Last year, Athell Bennett defeated No. 11 Michigan's Carter Lin 7-6(4), 6-4 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to earn the only Boilermaker point of the match.
Purdue has won two of the last three matches against Michigan State. In 2016, the Boilermakers swept the Spartans 4-0. The following year in 2017, Purdue shutout Michigan State for the second year in a row, 7-0. The Boilermakers were led by Stephan Koenigsfest and Bennet. Koenigfest defeated Ivan Rakic 6-1, 6-4. Bennett defeated Billy Shisler 6-0, 6-1.
