WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – After almost a month off, the Purdue men's golf team returns to the course looking to maintain its spring momentum, traveling to Bulls Bay Golf Course for the Hootie at Bulls Bay beginning Sunday.
The event is hosted by Darius Rucker, the former lead singer of Hootie and the Blowfish and current country music star, and held at Bulls Bay Golf Course, an award-winning golf course in Awendaw, South Carolina. The course plays to 7,220 yards and will play par-72.
The field is one of the strongest in the country, littered with ACC and SEC teams as 15 teams will compete for the title. Purdue, ranked 55th nationally, will be joined by Duke (4th), South Carolina (20th), North Carolina State (27th), Kansas (36th), Iowa State (38th), West Virginia (41st), Ole Miss (48th), Virginia (58th), College of Charleston (64th), Kentucky (67th), Missouri (71st), Kent State (74th), Wisconsin (114th) and Middle Tennessee State (128th).
Ole Miss won last year's event with a 54-hole total of 841, defeating Kent State by one shot and Kentucky by three strokes.
Purdue competed in the 2017 event, posting a seventh-place finish with an 861. Jarle Volden and Timmy Hildebrand competed in the event, finishing T-17th (-1) and T-57th (+6) respectively.
The Boilermakers are coming off a strong fifth-place finish at the Puerto Rico Classic, recording a 54-hole total of 5-under par 859. Hildebrand, Volden and Cole Bradley all recorded top-25 finishes as Purdue posted a big finish to move up in the national rankings and move 14 spots over .500, good news when it comes to NCAA qualifications.
Hildebrand continues to lead Purdue with a 70.81 stroke average and six top-20 finishes in seven events this year. Fourteen of his 21 rounds have been even- or under-par and his 73.06 career stroke average is the second-best average in school history.
Bradley follows with a 72.14 average (fourth in school history) and two top-10 finishes. Bradley has 13 even- or under-par rounds this year.
Volden (72.33), Joe Weiler (73.48) and freshman Andrew Lewis (74.56) round out the Boilermakers' lineup.
Action will get underway Sunday at 10 a.m. ET, and will conclude Tuesday with 8 a.m., tee times.
