AUSTIN, Texas
– A strong finish over the final two rounds of the 1-meter diving prelim allowed Purdue's Emily Bretscher to climb 11 places on the leaderboard, helping the sophomore earn honorable mention All-America accolades at the NCAA Championships.

Bretscher finished as the runner-up in the consolation final, good for a 10th-place showing at the national championships meet. She earned her first career All-America honor. Purdue has had a women's diver earn All-America acclaim in 15 of the last 16 years.

Bretscher was in 21st place entering the fifth round of the prelim, needing to be top 16 to advance. She finished strong with consecutive 50-point dives, including a list-high score of 58.8 on her final dive to vault from 17th to 10th. Her list score in the prelim was 296.75 and she improved on it with a mark of 303.65 in the consolation final.

Morgan Meixner (39th) and Emily Meaney (47th) also competed Thursday for the Boilermakers, but did not advance past the prelim. They were unable to overcome a pair of sub 40-point scores. They'll join Bretscher in the 3-meter prelim again Friday.

Bretscher got off to a strong start in both the prelim and final, posting an average score of 54.9 over her first two dives of both rounds of competition. A 10-point improvement on her round 3 dive in the consolation final was the primary reason why she improved on her list score by 6.9 points.

Taite Kitchel (100 fly) and Jinq En Phee (100 breast) also compete Friday at the NCAA Championships. Swimming prelims are set for 10 a.m. ET and diving prelims follow at 12:30 p.m. ET. Finals are at 6 p.m. ET live on ESPNU.
