MINNEAPOLIS
– Purdue's upper weights strung together three wins in a 24-11 dual loss to No. 7 Minnesota (12-2, 5-1 B1G) on Sunday. Dylan Lydy, Max Lyon and Christian Brunner picked up impressive victories for the 19th-ranked Boilermakers (5-7, 2-4 B1G) at Maturi Pavilion.

The second meeting this season and the fourth over the past two seasons between Lydy and Devin Skatzka once again went to the Boilermaker. Lydy, ranked 14th at 174 pounds, prevailed 6-4 in sudden victory to knock out the 11th-ranked Gopher. Both wrestlers scored a takedown and a pair of escapes during regulation to be locked at 4-4.

The winning takedown came out of a flurry in front of the Purdue bench with 12 seconds remaining. Lydy lifted his redshirt junior mark to 18-6 with the win.

A pair of takedowns in the third period lifted Lyon past Minnesota's Owen Webster 5-2 in the ensuing match at 184 pounds. Lyon (18-7) converted a deep shot on Webster with just two seconds remaining to lock up his sixth straight win and improve to 5-1 in Big Ten Conference duals.

Bonus points were awarded in the 197-pound match with Brunner rolling up Dylan Anderson with an 18-1 technical fall in 5:22. The 12th-ranked Boilermaker took Anderson down twice and closed out the opening frame with a four-point nearfall. Brunner (15-6) rode Anderson through the second period, building his lead with another four-point nearfall. A reversal and another four-point nearfall to start the third sealed the technical fall, the first of the season for Brunner, at the 5:22 mark.

In addition to the 174-pound match, the dual featured three additional weight classes with ranked wrestlers squaring off. The dual opened with Purdue's No. 19 Devin Schroder's five-match winning streak coming to a halt at the hands of No. 6 Sean Russell, suffering a 9-0 loss.

Eighth-ranked Ethan Lizak's decision to take top in the third period was the difference for the Minnesota 133-pounder in a 5-3 win over No. 14 Ben Thornton. Thornton capitalized on his choice to start the second period from neutral by taking Lizak down to match the Gophers' takedown in the opening frame. Lizak turned Thornton for a two-point nearfall in the third period and worked riding time in his favor to hold Thornton off.

Sudden victory was needed at 157 pounds between No. 13 Griffin Parriott of Purdue and No. 8 Steve Bliese of Minnesota. With 15 seconds remaining in the winner-take-all period, Bliese fought through a shot by Parriott and came out with the winning takedown to break a 3-3 tie and deal the Boilermaker a 5-3 setback.

Purdue returns to its home mat at Holloway Gymnasium with a double-dual weekend. The Boilermakers will play host to Stanford on Feb. 8 and Rutgers on Feb. 10.
