The Purdue track & field team concluded the first day of the Larry Wieczorek Invite with three meet records and three Purdue top-10 bests.

IOWA CITY, IOWA – The Purdue track & field team concluded the first day of the Larry Wieczorek Invite with three meet records and three Purdue top-10 bests.

The team, which faced some of the nation's top programs with Illinois, Iowa produced a total of 10 top-five finishes through the first day of competition.

Sarah Loesch threw the fourth-farthest weight throw in Boilermaker history. The All-American produced a 70-02.25/ 21.39m throw, for the third time the senior has made the indoor top-10 list. Loesch finished only behind the facility record-setting throw of 23.33m by Kaitlyn Long (unattached).

Also placing second in her event was pole vaulter Tessa Sheets, who cracked the Purdue indoor top-10 list with her 12-11.50/3.95-meter performance to tie No. 8 in the record books.

Meanwhile, long jumper Jaden Mattox jumped Purdue's ninth-best distance in history with a 19-09.75/6.04 mark. Mattox just edged out her previous best, set a year ago, for the position.

In the opening running event for the Boilermakers, freshman Isabelle Sparreo took home her first victory as a Boilermaker with her meet record time of 9:57.08. Sparreo was joined by two other newcomers who set meet records. Brittney Campbell took first in the women's 600-meter run with a time of 1:32.79 seconds, shaving two and a half seconds off the previous meet best. Additionally, Justin Becker broke the meet record in the men's 200-meter dash with a time of 21.96 for sixth-place.

The Larry Wieczorek Invite will conclude tomorrow. The Boilermakers' first event of the day will begin at 3:30 p.m. ET with the women's 60-meter hurdles. The final event, the men's and women's 4x400-meter premier relays, will begin at 8:15 p.m. ET.
