Boilermakers in the NFL
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Five former Purdue football players are with National Football League teams headed to the playoffs, which get underway this weekend.
The quintet consists of linebacker Ja'Whaun Bentley (New England Patriots), cornerback Anthony Brown (Dallas Cowboys), quarterback Drew Brees (New Orleans Saints), offensive guard Jordan Roos (Seattle Seahawks) and offensive tackle David Steinmetz (Houston Texans).
On Saturday, Houston hosts the Indianapolis Colts and Dallas hosts Seattle.
New England is the AFC East Division champion and New Orleans is the NFC South Division champion, and both play their first game Jan. 13.
A Boilermaker has been in 19 consecutive Super Bowls, the second-longest streak in the country behind Nebraska (25), and on the winning team 14 of the last 19 seasons.
Brees broke his own NFL season record by completing 74.4 percent of his passes. He also owns the second, fourth- and fifth-best marks (72.0 in 2017, 71.2 in 2011 and 70.6 in 2009) and is the career leader at 67.3 percent. On Oct. 8, Brees became the NFL career passing yards leader, and he finished the season with 74,437.
