WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue women's basketball sophomore Lyndsey Whilby was granted immediate eligibility for the 2018-19 season Friday after transferring from Texas Tech University this summer. Whilby and her Boilermaker teammates are scheduled to open the season Nov. 4, hosting Ashland University for an exhibition game at Mackey Arena.

"We're excited about the immediate impact that Whilby will have for our team this season," said Purdue head coach Sharon Versyp. "Already having a season of Division I basketball under her belt, she provides with more experience and gives us another dimension of play on the wing."

The Atlanta native appeared in all 30 games in her freshman campaign with the Red Raiders, starting nine, and averaged 7.2 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. She played in WC Celtics AAU Program and won three straight state titles at McEachern High School.

"Whilby is an incredibly versatile and explosive wing that gives us a huge boost on both ends of the floor," said Versyp. "She's played at a very high level with three state titles in high school and is no stranger to hard work. Offensively she gives us a legit one-on-one threat, who can shoot the 3, post up and break a defender down at the rim, while defensively she's very long, matches up well on the perimeter and can hit the boards hard."
