WGOLF Shoots 303 to Open Silverado

NAPA, Calif. - The Purdue women's golf team struggled late in the first round of the 2018 Silverado Showdown, shooting 15-over par, 303, and sitting tied for 13th place after 18 holes at the North Course at Silverado Resort and Spa. Senior Marta Martin continued her recent hot streak to lead the Boilermakers, marking her sixth straight round of par or better with an even-par 72.

Martin is tied for seventh place after 18 holes, going the final 11 holes of the day at par or better and turning in the Boilermakers' top individual score of the day. She birdied her first hole of the day, No. 10, and then bounced back after bogeys on No. 14 and No. 16 with another birdie on No. 18. She dropped nine straight pars on the front nine to finish out the day.

Junior Ida Ayu Indira Melati Putri had the Boilermakers' No. 2 score of the day, shooting four-over par, 76, followed by freshman Inez Wanamarta at five-over 77. Sophomore Micaela Farah and junior Covadonga SanJuan halved the final team score at six-over par, 78. Farah had three straight birdies on No. 2, 3 and 4, to highlight the remainder of the Boilermakers' play, as the team made only eight birdies in the round.

Southern California leads the team standings at two-over par, 290, paced by individual leader Jennifer Chang, who shot six-under, 66. Arizona and UCLA are two shots back at four-over 292, while California is fourth at five-over par, 293. Only six indivdiuals shot under par Sunday, while Martin is 1-of-5 players at par.

Purdue resumes play tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. ET, hitting the course with Oregon and a group of various individuals from the 17-team field, heading off the back nine.
