Bigger, Better Video Scoreboards Up at Pool

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Making its debut this month at Purdue's Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center is a new video scoreboard, which is 13 feet wider with double the screen resolution of its predecessor.

The dimensions of the new Daktronics videoboard are 36 feet wide by 14 feet tall. It was installed in the same location on the north wall of the pool as the previous scoreboard, which was 23 feet wide by 10 feet tall. The auxiliary board on the west wall, which is primarily used for diving, was also replaced. The resolution of the auxiliary board also doubled. Both also feature improved dimming and contrast options.

The new videoboards were installed by the Purdue Physical Facilities staff. The aquatic center staff, led by David Fraseur and Terry Huntley, then worked in conjunction with visiting field engineers and technical staff from Daktronics to get the boards up and running ahead of schedule. Originally slated to make their debut at this weekend's inaugural ACC/Big Ten Challenge, both new video scoreboards were functional for the Nov. 2 triple dual with Tennessee and Wisconsin.

The new video scoreboards offer a variety of new options that will be explored over the course of the 2018-19 school year. The previous scoreboards had been in place since the facility opened in August 2001.

Admission is free for both sessions of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The all-star meet features the top student-athletes from both Power 5 conferences competing in 19 events over two days. Action is set for Saturday at 5 p.m. ET and Sunday at 10 a.m. The day 2 events will be televised live by the Big Ten Network.
