MADISON, Wis. – The No. 22 nationally ranked Purdue men's cross country team is primed to compete in the 2018 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships on Saturday at 12:45 p.m. ET. The 10,000-meter race will be streamed live on FloTrack, which fans can watch with a paid subscription or follow the live results HERE.
The men's program makes its first appearance in the NCAA Championships since 1986 following its fourth-place finish at the Great Lakes Regional in Terre Haute a week ago. The Boilermakers received an at-large bid, as the team placed outside of the top-two qualifying positions.
Junior Jaret Carpenter led Purdue at Regionals after winning the event in 31:09.6. The victory was secured in the final stretch of the race, where he was able to pass Detroit Mercy's Ben Kendell to take the lead. Since his first-place finish, Carpenter was named the Bill McClimon Award recipient, which is given to the Great Lakes Region top men's athlete.
Five Boilermakers placed among the top-44 in its last race, averaging a 10k time of 31:38. In addition to Carpenter, Curt Eckstein finished No. 8 overall, followed by Brody Smith in 27th-place, Bailey McIntire in 41st and Jake Hanawalt in 44th-place. Hanawalt, Purdue's lone senior, will take part in his final cross country meet as a Boilermaker.
The Boilermakers are one of four men's Big Ten programs to be in attendance with Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin also earning bids.
