Trio of Football Student-Athletes Academic All-District

Quarterback David Blough, punter Joe Schopper and safety Jacob Thieneman were recognized by CoSIDA for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Three Purdue football senior student-athletes earned first-team academic all-district honors Thursday.

Quarterback David Blough, punter Joe Schopper and safety Jacob Thieneman were recognized by CoSIDA for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

Blough is pursuing a master's degree in health and kinesiology after earning his bachelor's in organizational leadership. He is enjoying his best season as a Boilermaker, having completed 65.8 percent of his passes for 2,825 yards with 18 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Schopper is pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. He boasts a 44.2-yard punting average, and 16 of his 43 punts have come to rest inside the opponent's 20-yard line (37 percent).

Thieneman is a mechanical engineering major. He ranks third on the Boilermakers with 71 tackles (47 solo, 24 assists), including seven for loss and five sacks, with five pass breakups and one blocked field goal.

Blough, Schopper and Thieneman all are team captains. The three advance to the Academic All-America ballot. First- and second-team (if applicable) Academic All-America selections will be announced in early December.

Purdue is in District V, which includes schools from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.
