The Purdue men's and women's cross country teams are poised to run in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, scheduled for Friday at the LaVern Gibson Championships Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Indiana.

WEST LAFAYETTE, IND. The Purdue men's and women's cross country teams are poised to run in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, scheduled for Friday at the LaVern Gibson Championships Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Indiana.

The women's program is slated to run the 6k first at 11:15 a.m. ET, followed by the men's 10k at 12:15 p.m. ET.

The Boilermakers are coming off a runner-up finish on the men's side for their best placing at the Big Ten Championships since 1985. The No. 15 Purdue men were led by two All-Big Ten selections in First Team All-Big Ten junior Jaret Carpenter and Second Team All-Big Ten sophomore Curt Eckstein after placing fifth and ninth overall, respectively.

Combined, the men's team produced 88 points, which was a team best at the championships in 33 years. Additionally, five Boilermakers produced top-30 finishes, including Carpenter, Eckstein and Jacob Hanawalt who combined to shave off over two minutes from their times at the meet a year ago.

A total of five nationally ranked men's programs will be competing including No. 3 Wisconsin, No. 10 Notre Dame, No. 15 Purdue, No. 23 Indiana and No. 27 Michigan and ranked 1-5 in the Great Lakes Region rankings, respectively.

Thirty-four teams, including 305 competitors are registered on the women's side, led by Michigan as the top-ranked team in the Great Lakes Region and No. 7 in the nation. Following Michigan is Michigan State at second in the region and 10th nationally and Wisconsin at third in the region and No. 11 in the nation. Indiana rounds out the top-ranked teams, checking in at No. 4 in the region and No. 11 in the nation.

Emma Benner produced the women's top time at the Big Ten Championships with a 20:57.9 6k mark for 32nd-place. Jenna Halderman followed close behind with a 45th-place and a time of 21:25.02.

The Purdue men look to advance to its first NCAA appearance since 1986 and its 13th overall while the women have their sights on becoming the first team in Purdue history to advance to the championships.

Admission to the NCAA Great Lakes Regional is $5 per person in cash only.
