Dive-by-Dive Scoring
ROSEMONT, Ill. – Emily Bretscher's springboard sweep in Purdue's triple dual vs. Tennessee and Wisconsin has earned the sophomore Big Ten Diver of the Week honors.
Bretscher garnered her first career Big Ten weekly honor after posting a league-high score (362.85) this season while winning on 3-meter. She moved into eighth place in program history with the career-best score, winning the event by 85 points.
Nebraska's Abigail Knapton shared the conference honor with Bretscher this week after also sweeping the springboard events in a dual meet with Kansas, posting a nearly identical score of 362.48 on 3-meter.
Bretscher and Knapton are both slated to compete this weekend at the inaugural ACC/Big Ten Challenge, which is being held at Purdue's Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center. Bretscher is entered in Saturday's platform event and Knapton is listed for both 3-meter and platform.
Bretscher was victorious on 1-meter vs. Tennessee and Wisconsin with a team season-best score of 304.75. She improved on her NCAA Zone-qualifying scores in both events. Purdue is set to host the Zone C meet in mid-March. As a freshman last year, she qualified for the NCAA Championships on both 1-meter and platform based on her performances at Zones. She also scored in all three diving events at the Big Ten Championships as a freshman.
Bretscher joins teammates Steele Johnson, Joe Cifelli and Brandon Loschiavo as active Boilermakers to win Big Ten Diver of the Week. However, the Purdue women have not had a Diver of the Week honoree since Mary Beth Dunnichay in December 2015.
Among an eight-diver field on 3-meter, Bretscher had the top score in all six rounds. She posted a list-high score of 69 in round 2, the first of three scores above 60 points. She averaged 60.48 points per round. The list score of 362.85 was the highest by a Boilermaker since Dunnichay in 2016.
Bretscher is among the 13 Boilermakers slated to compete at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Sessions are set for Saturday at 5 p.m. ET and Sunday at 10 a.m. Admission is free both days.
