WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Not many people probably saw it coming. No one could have expected that the Nation's Most Exciting Player would have the year he had. Not with four proven seniors on the roster. Yet, here he was in early April, on the stage at the NUVO Theater in Los Angeles accepting the Jerry West Award as the nation's best shooting guard. No one could have seen it for a recruit the so-called experts ranked barely in the top 100.
As his season rolled on, Carsen Edwards picked up steam. He scored 22 points against No. 2-ranked Arizona, made several huge plays in a thrilling win at Michigan, scored 28 against Ohio State, went for 27 TWICE against one of the league's best defensive players, willed the Boilers to a win at Illinois with a 40-piece and had one of the most-memorable plays in the historic Purdue-Indiana rivalry. He then finished the year with 30 points in the Sweet 16, earning a spot on the All-East Region team, while surpassing 1,000 career points during the NCAA Tournament.
Now as one of just three returning All-Americans from a year ago, Edwards has remained grounded through it all. Knowing there is a lot of work to do and that preseason accolades mean nothing, Edwards is driven to lead Purdue out of nowhere and to another Big Ten title.
