WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's soccer team Senior Day was spoiled with Wisconsin's 1-0 shutout on Folk Field. The Boilermakers were unable to answer the Badger's late first-half goal, resulting in a 6-5-3, 1-4-2 B1G record for Purdue.
Despite the 1-0 scoreboard, the Boilermakers and Badgers each produced 10 shots, with an even four coming in the first half and six in the second for both teams.
Eight Boilermakers registered at least one shot in the match, including Teagan Jones and Aly Mielke off the bench with a team-high two shots apiece.
In the 43rd minute, Wisconsin's Emily Borgmann scored on a shot that ricocheted off the crossbar and past the goal line.
Just minutes before the Badgers scored, Hannah Mussallem came streaking up the right side of the field and was able to pass the ball off the Katie Stephens. Stephens sent a cross into the box, where Paige Liebel recorded a header shot that landed right of the goal.
Purdue's pressure increased in the second half, but the Boilermakers were unable to convert. In the 71 st minute, the Boilermakers earned a corner kick that led to three shots and another corner in the span of two minutes.
Katie Luce produced five saves in the loss, seeing action for the full 90 minutes. Mussallem, Skylurr Patrick and Graced Walsh also went the distance in Sunday's game.
Before the match began, Purdue celebrated the contributions of senior captains Mussallem, Dannah Williams and athletic trainer Diana Alonzo to the Purdue program.
Hannah Mussallem has appeared in every Purdue game since joining the program in 2015. The defender earned Big Ten Defender of the Week honors Oct. 2 for her performance in Purdue's 1-0 victory over in-state rival Indiana.
Dannah Williams has appeared in 40 games throughout her Boilermaker career. During her time, Williams recorded the game-winning goal against Maryland as a sophomore to produce the team's first 1-0 victory against a Big Ten opponent since 2013. Williams is also a member of the Boilermaker Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and received her degree in management last May in just three years.
Both Mussallem and Williams are two-time Academic All-Big Ten honorees.
