Eckstein Delivers First-Place Finish

The Purdue men's cross country team won the John McNichols Invitational after Curt Eckstein and Jaret Carpenter finished with a one-two punch. On the women's side, Jenna Halderman led the Boilermakers team to a second-place finish.­

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Purdue men's cross country team won the John McNichols Invitational after Curt Eckstein and Jaret Carpenter finished with a one-two punch. On the women's side, Jenna Halderman led the Boilermakers to a second-place finish.­

Seven Boilermakers placed among the top 16 men's spots.

Eckstein, the 2017 Big Ten Freshman of the Year, ran the fastest men's time with a 24:52.9 mark, while Carpenter finished with a time of 24:54.5. In addition to Eckstein and Carpenter, Theo Burgwald, Kyle Griffith, Jake Hanawalt, Bailey McIntire and Brody Smith recorded the top times.

On the women's side, Halderman led the team to a second-place finish for the second time this year. The junior ran a 18:03.5 to finish behind Butler's Joesphine Thestrup and Northern Illinois' Ashley Tut. Purdue senior Gabrielle Broschard closed out the top-10 times after a 18:22.4 showing, while sophomore Megan Slamkowski slid in at No. 11 with a time of 18:24.9.
