WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The No.15 Boilermakers travel south for Alabama's Crimson and White Tournament in their first true road test of the season. In the tournament Purdue will challenge Southern Miss, South Alabama and host No. 25 Alabama.

Scouting Southern Miss
Southern Miss heads into the tournament with a 6-4 mark after going 1-3 at the Home2Suites Tallahassee Seminole Invitational. In the tournament, the Golden Eagles swept Florida A&M before falling to Florida State and VCU in straight sets. Southern Miss has seen four straight 20+ win seasons and was picked to finish fifth in the Conference USA this season.

Senior Kylie Grandy leads the team with 121 kills (4.17 per set) this season, and has added on 10 aces and 10 total blocks through only seven matches. Defensively, Alexis Coombs leads the pack with 35 total blocks (13 solo), while Madison Lawler has held down the back row with 102 digs (3.40 per set).

Friday's match will be the first meeting between Purdue and Southern Miss.

Scouting No. 25 Alabama
Alabama brings a 10-match winning streak into Friday's contest with the Boilermakers. The Crimson Tide checked at No. 25 on this week's AVCA Poll after defeating Marshall, Georgia Tech and Northern Illinois last weekend in the Hampton Inn Bama Bash in Tuscaloosa, followed by a midweek win over Samford.

Alabama ranks ninth in the nation in total team blocks (102), 18th in blocks per set (2.76) and 19th in assists per set (13.46).

Last Meeting vs. the Crimson Tide
Purdue is 2-0 all-time against Alabama. The two programs last met in 1981 with the Boilermakers prevailing 3-1 (16-14, 15-10,5-15,15-3) at Holloway Gymnasium. The teams first met in 1978, when the Boilermakers swept (14-16, 16-14, 15-11) the Crimson Tide in the Southwest Missouri State Invitational. Friday night's match will be there the first time the teams have met in Tuscaloosa. 

Scouting South Alabama
The Jaguars carry a four-match winning streak into this weekend after sweeping the Jaguar Invitational last weekend in Mobile and defeating Alabama State in straight sets Tuesday at Jag Gym. The Jaguars rank second in the Sun Belt Conference in hitting percentage (.251) after posting a .537 team hitting percentage against ASU, which ranks second on the program's single-match records list. Hannah Harris set a Jaguar single-match record in hitting percentage (.929), and recorded a game-high 13 kills. 

Overall, South Alabama is guided by Kelley Hartman, who ranks second in the Sun Belt in hitting percentage (.402), tied for third in service aces per set (0.42) and seventh in kills per set (3.18). Parker Harrell ranks eighth in the league in assists per set (6.89), Ashlyn Roberts ranks ninth in digs per set (3.42) and Morgan Stalcup ranks tied for ninth in blocks per set (1.00).
