WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The freshman class continued Purdue's history of exhibition excellence after notching both of the goals scored in Wednesday's 2-0 victory over Indiana State. Mia Roth produced the game-winner in the 18th minute while Aly Mielke slotted the insurance goal in the 69th minute.
The Boilermakers outshot the Sycamores 21-2 and tallied nine corner kicks. Sixty-seven percent of shots taken were posted by the incoming class, including a game-high four by the Lake Forest, California native Sydney Duarte.
Roth, out of Mission Viejo, California, solidified the Boilermakers win with a point blank goal coming off a rebound by Duarte.
During the second half, Mielke slotted the ball in the back of the net after fellow freshman Teagan Jones ripped a shot that was deflected by a diving goalkeeper. Only minutes after the second score, sophomore Kylie Hase attempted Purdue's third goal with a header, however Indiana State's Jordan Denton knocked it away just in time.
The shutout marks the seventh consecutive exhibition win under Coach Drew Roff's reign. Purdue entered the evening with a 4-0 series advantage over its in-state foe, however the exhibition friendly will not count towards its regular season record.
Preseason action will conclude on Saturday when No. 14 ranked Notre Dame travels to West Lafayette for a 7 p.m. ET exhibition kickoff.
