True freshman Rondale Moore broke Purdue's single-game all-purpose yards record by totaling 313 in the game, passing the 312 compiled by Otis Armstrong in 1972 vs. Indiana. Moore totaled 79 rushing yards, 109 receiving yards and 125 kickoff return yards.
Moore totaled 302 all-purpose yards (79 rushing, 98 receiving, 125 kickoff return) in the first half, quickly ranking third in Boilermaker history in the category behind Armstrong and Vinny Sutherland (306, 1999 vs. Central Michigan).
Moore totaled 192 all-purpose yards in the first quarter, collecting 79 by rush, 43 on receptions and 70 on kickoff returns.
Moore's 76-yard touchdown rush in the first quarter was the longest rush by a Purdue player since Akeem Hunt's 82-yard rush against Indiana in 2014.
OFFENSE
Sophomore wide receiver Jared Sparks has totaled 17 receptions and 206 receiving yards in two career games vs. Northwestern.
Purdue's ground attack came alive in the third quarter. After averaging 2.3 yards per rush (7 rushes for 16 yards) in the second quarter, the Boilermakers ran for 8.2 yards per rush (13 for 107) in the third quarter.
DEFENSE
Purdue's defense shut out Northwestern in the second half, limiting the Wildcats to 47 yards on 20 rushes.
Sophomore linebacker Cornel Jones, making his first career start, totaled six tackles, including a team-high three tackles for loss.
Defensive back Tim Cason broke up a career-best three passes.
SPECIAL TEAMS
Spencer Evans continued to be perfect inside 40 yards. The senior kicker, who was 8-for-8 inside 40 last season, made attempts from 38 yards and 27 yards tonight. His lone miss was a 53-yard attempt that flew right of the uprights.
