WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's soccer program is set to host the 2018 Boilermaker Challenge Cup for the first time since 2015. Purdue will welcome Iowa State, No. 19 Northwestern and No. 25 West Virginia to Folk Field, Aug. 24-26 in a Big Ten vs. Big 12 showdown.

PREVIEW: NO. 25 WEST VIRGINIA MOUNTAINEERS
• The Boilermakers and Mountaineers will meet for the sixth time in program history (1-3-1 series record). This marks the first meeting since Sept. 1, 2016 when Purdue traveled to Morgantown and fell 2-0.
• West Virginia is 0-1-1 on the year after opening the season with a 1-0 loss at No. 4 Penn State and a 1-1 (2OT) draw versus Arkansas. Despite the -1 goal differential, the Mountaineers outshot their opponents 37-21 and earned a 17-7 corner kick advantage.
• WVU earned the No. 9 spot on the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll heading into the 2018 campaign in addition to being named the Big 12 preseason favorite.
• The Mountaineers have been ranked in the top 25 poll every week since Sept. 3, 2013 and have appeared in 18 consecutive NCAA tournaments.
• Two MAC Hermann Trophy candidates are members of the WVU team - Rylee Foster (GK, Jr.) and Bianca St. Georges (D, Sr.). 

PREVIEW: THE IOWA STATE CYCLONES
• Sunday's battle will mark the first time the Cyclones have played the Boilermakers in West Lafayette. Purdue traveled to Ames, Iowa on Sept. 2, 2005 where Purdue was shutout 1-0.
• Iowa State went 1-1 during the 2018 opening weekend, recording a 2-0 win over South Dakota and a 2-1 (2OT) loss versus Missouri. Courtney Powell, Kasey Opfer and Emily Steil score the Cyclone goals.
 
PATRICK FORGES FRESHMAN RECORD
Skylurr Patrick notched the game-winner in Purdue's season opener versus Eastern Michigan just 39 seconds into the start of the game.
• With the goal, Patrick became the fastest freshman to score a goal in program history (previous record set - 00:50 by Lauren Sesselman vs. Butler, 2001).
• Additionally, the goal was the fifth quickest ever by a Boilermaker and the first time a Purdue player scored within the first minute of the game since Alex Hairston, 0:31 at Ohio State (09/23/13).

SEASON OPENER FOR THE BOOKS
• In addition to Patrick's historic 39 second goal, freshman Teagan Jones and sophomore Sarah Clark each notched the first goals of their collegiate career. against Eastern Michigan. This marks the first time two freshman recorded goals in the season opener since the 5-1 victory over Eastern Illinois in 2008. 
• With the EMU victory, Coach Drew Roff is just two wins away from reaching his 150th victory at the helm of the Purdue program. 

NEW IN TOWN
• The 2018 roster features a large incoming class with 11 freshmen joining the team for the upcoming season. 
• Freshmen accounted for 15 of Purdue's 21 shots (71 percent) and six of eight shots (75 percent) on goal against Eastern Michigan, including the game-high five shots with two on goal by Jones. 

BOILERMAKER CHALLENGE CUP HISTORY
• This marks the 16th occasion Purdue has hosted the four-team event, the last occurring in 2015. The tournament was hosted every year from 1999 to 2009, but went on hiatus in 2010, 2012 and from 2016-17.
• Purdue owns a 19-8-3 record in the cup but has not won the event since 2009. 

THE RETURN
• Seven players who saw action in every game during the 2017 year return for the 2018 season: Kylie Hase, Maya Lambert, Hannah Melchiorre, Hannah Mussallem, Sarah Griffith, Brady Riley and Katie Stephens.
Hannah Mussallem recorded her 40th career start with the season opener vs. Eastern Michigan.

SCHEDULE PREVIEW
• With the 2018 season, Purdue will play 11 regular-season games at Folk Field while hitting the road for just seven.
• Over the next two weekends, the Boilermakers are posed to compete against two top-25 ranked teams. First, Purdue will host No. 25 West Virginia before traveling to No. 10 South Carolina the following weekend.
• Two matches will be featured on BTN: Sept. 13 Michigan State at Purdue and Oct. 18 Ohio State at Purdue.
• In honor of Purdue's historic 20th season, Sept. 15 and 16 is marked for the 2018 Purdue Soccer Alumnae Weekend. Program alumni are invited to take part in a full weekend of events, including taking part in a training session, and being honored on the field at halftime of the Purdue-Michigan soccer game.

THE TRAIN KEEPS MOVING
• The 2017 soccer season marked the Boilermakers strongest season of the decade. The program posted 21 more goals than they did the year before and won six more games than they did in 2016. That matches the biggest win improvement (+6 from 2006 to 2007) in program history.
