Kim's Symetra Tour Bio / Symetra Tour Tournament Schedule
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Former Purdue women's golfer August Kim has shown a solid streak of success over the past several weeks, turning in four top-10 performances in her last five starts on the Symetra Tour. The 2017 All-America selection is in her second season of professional golf after receiving her bachelor's degree in biochemistry a year ago.
Kim opened her run of impressive performances June 29 at the Prasco Charity Championship in Cincinnati, tying for fifth place with a score of eight-under par, 208, and followed up with a fourth-place effort at the Donald Ross Classic at French Lick Resort in Indiana on July 12, shooting eight-under par, 205. Kim's first 72-hole tournament of the season was a successful one, posting a score of nine-under par, 279, and tying for fifth at the Danielle Downey Credit Union Classic in Rochester, New York on July 19. Most recently Kim turned in an eighth-place tie at the PHC Classic in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, shooting eight-under par, 208.
Her 2017 All-America award came on the strength of a fourth-place finish at the national championship, and went along with a 2016 Big Ten Championship, a trio of All-Big Ten honors and three Academic All-Big Ten awards. She was undefeated in match play over her final two seasons (7-0-2) and posted medalist honors three times in her career, including the 2017 Henssler Intercollegiate.
Kim is currently ranked 22nd on the Volvik Race for the Card with $27,944 grossed this season. Most of that has come during her current hot streak, while a pair of top-20 finishes at the start of the season helped the cause. The top-10 finishers at the end of the season earn their tour card for the Ladies Professional Golf Association, a feat achieved most recently by a Boilermaker in 2016 as Laura Gonzalez Escallon placed fifth and earned the Symetra Rising Star Award.
Kim continues her season Friday, heading to Battle Creek, Michigan for the FireKeepers Casino Hotel Championship. The tournament is the first of seven events left on the 2018 Symetra Tour calendar.
