2018 Recruiting Class
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - A starting defender for Connecticut as a freshman last year, Paige Liebel has joined Purdue women's soccer as a transfer and is slated to be eligible immediately for the upcoming season.
Liebel played in 17 of UConn's 19 games in 2017, making 16 starts. She logged 1,529 minutes to rank fourth on the team. She did not play in the Huskies' first and final games of the season, but went the distance in 15 straight from Aug. 27 to Oct. 22.
A native of St. Petersburg, Florida, Liebel was a three-year varsity letterwinner at Canterbury School of Florida. She was the salutatorian of her graduating class as well as an AP Scholar and National Honor Society member. She also played for the Tampa Bay United ECNL club, helping it win the 2015 United States Youth Soccer national championship. The club was a USYS national finalist the year prior and a two-time Florida State Cup champion in 2015 and 2016.
Transfers have enjoyed success at Purdue under fourth-year head coach Drew Roff. Gabby LaMere (2015-17), Hannah Leinert (2015-16) and Dagny Olson (2015-16) were all multi-year starters for the Boilermakers after joining the program in time for Roff's first season in 2015. Together that trio combined to make 78 career starts for Purdue.
Liebel helped lead Connecticut to shutout wins on the road at Tulsa and Central Connecticut State in 2017. She also went the distance in five overtime games, highlighted by wins vs. Arkansas and Houston. She made her first collegiate start in a road game at Rutgers.
Liebel was a six-year member of the ODP Region 3 pool and Florida state team from 2012 to 2017. She also had an opportunity to compete in Germany for Turbine Potsdam of Junior Bundesliga. She was studying electrical engineering and German at UConn.
The Boilermakers also have 11 freshmen joining the team this summer. Purdue is welcoming new players into the program from Arkansas, California, Illinois, Florida, Maryland, Texas and Wisconsin.
