WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue (11-29, 3-6 B1G) travels to Lincoln, Nebraska, to take on the Cornhuskers (28-14, 6-5 B1G) at Bowlin Stadium. The three-game series kicks off with a doubleheader Friday beginning at 4 p.m. ET due to the weekend's weather forecast.
The Boilermakers are coming off a midweek split doubleheader with Indiana State in which redshirt freshman Sydney Bates threw 11.2 innings with 12 strikeout and didn't allow an earned run. The Davie, Florida, native was given the start in game one and gave up just three unearned runs in 5.1 innings of work. She came out of the bullpen in the first inning of game two after Indiana State had jumped out to a 3-0 lead and shut down the Sycamores in her 6.1 innings. Bates struck out six batters in each game.
In Big Ten play it's Jenny Behan and Stephanie Ramsey who lead the way at the plate as they're both hitting .370 with 10 hits in nine conference games. The two have combined for 22 of Purdue's 39 RBI against conference opponents this season and account for five of seven home runs. Behan is slugging .815 with three doubles and three homers while Ramsey has two doubles and two home runs.
Behan has eight hits in a six-game hitting streak with eight runs scored and 11 RBI. Of her eight hits, five have gone for extra bases as she's registered two doubles and three home runs during the hot streak at the plate. Freshman Ryleigh Scott takes a five-game hitting streak into the weekend with eight hits, six runs scored and three runs batted in. The Terre Haute, Indiana, native leads all Big Ten freshmen this season with 42 hits on the year and leads Purdue with a .316 batting average.
