Meet Program
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Boilermakers are one of three Big Ten teams headed to LSU for Saturday's Battle on the Bayou. The one-day competition pits the Boilermakers against Iowa, LSU and Penn State. Action from Bernie Moore Track Stadium is set to begin at 10:30 a.m. ET.
All four teams on the women's side are in the top 35 nationally, including No. 5 LSU and No. 11 Purdue. Penn State enters the meet at No. 33, while Iowa is No. 35. On the men's side, the Boilermakers will face three teams in the top 26. LSU is the top ranked team in the meet at No. 10, Penn State is No. 17 and Iowa is No. 26.
The highly ranked meet sets up some of the mostly highly contested events in the country.
On the women's side, Purdue's 4x100-meter relay team will be up against LSU's top-ranked team. Iowa's team is ranked 15th in the country entering the meet. Purdue's team, which has won three straight Big Ten titles, ranks 25th in the country. The women's 100-meter hurdles is all set up to be one of the fastest in the country this season. LSU's Tonea Marshall is No. 2 in the country, while Brittley Humphrey is 11th. Milan Young, also of LSU, is 16th in the country. For Purdue, senior Devynne Charlton, a two-time All-American in the event, ranks 18th in the country.
In the 400-meter dash, senior Jahneya Mitchell and sophomore Chloe Abbott both rank in the top 15. They will be up against Iowa's Briana Guillory who was the Big Ten indoor champion and a first team All-American. In the discus, senior Micaela Hazlewood is in the top 25 nationally. She will face Iowa's Laulauga Tausaga who is in the nation's top 10.
On the men's side, senior Justin Veteto will be up against national leader Damion Thomas in the 110-meter hurdles. Veteto was a national qualifier in the event a year ago. Sophomore Waseem Williams is top-10 in the 100-meter dash. He headlines the speedy field in the event Saturday.
Sophomore Ashmon Lucas is one of three men in the top 25 in the men's discus throw. Iowa's Reno Tuufuli ranks fifth in the country in the event, while Penn State's David Lucas is 17th.
