WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Wednesday’s Purdue-Oakland baseball game has been canceled due to cold temperatures, completing the cancellation of both games of the midweek series at Alexander Field.
Neither of the Purdue-Oakland games will be made up. Fans with tickets to either game can exchange the tickets for general admission seats to any future home date at Alexander Field this season.
Field conditions were playable Wednesday, but the air temperature was the issue. The real feel temperature was slated to remain under 30 degrees for the remainder of the afternoon and evening.
Tuesday’s game was originally postponed to part of a Wednesday doubleheader after thunderstorms and a tornado warning. The Purdue Sports Turf staff worked diligently to drain the field after the heavy rainfall Tuesday, but the temperature dropped after the storms moved through Greater Lafayette. Wednesday morning the decision was made to only play one game. The full cancelation of Wednesday’s action was made during the two o’clock hour.
Three of the Boilermakers’ 24 home dates this season have now been canceled due to weather. Purdue is back in action this weekend for a three-game series at rival Indiana. Beginning Tuesday vs. Ball State, the Boilermakers are scheduled to play 18 of their final 26 regular-season games at Alexander Field.
