WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Hannah Mussallem and Maddy Williams teamed up on an early goal for the second straight game and Purdue women's soccer extended its shutout streak with a 2-0 victory vs. Dayton on Sunday at Folk Field.
Williams scored her 27th career goal, and ninth game winner, in the fourth minute. She later assisted on freshman Hannah Melchiorre's third goal of the season, which sealed the victory in the 88th minute. The Boilermakers have scored first in each of their first five games and have a goal in seven straight dating back to the end of last year.
Including a preseason exhibition win vs. Iowa State, Purdue finished its six-game homestand with a 5-1 mark. The Boilermakers are 4-1 overall for the second time in three years under head coach Drew Roff. Dayton slipped to 2-3.
Purdue has posted three straight shutouts for the first time since midway through the 2013 campaign. Its shutout streak now stands at 272 consecutive minutes. Meanwhile, the Boilermakers have held the lead for 345 of the 450 minutes (77 percent) played this year.

Purdue played without center back Sarah Clark, who was held out as a precautionary measure after hitting her head on the end boards in the final minutes of Thursday's win vs. DePaul. Junior Dannah Williams successfully replaced Clark, making her 28th career start. The Boilermakers' back four didn't miss a beat.
Purdue dominated possession for much of the day, compiling a 15-7 advantage in the shot count and 12-2 edge in corners. Goalkeeper Katie Luce didn't have to make her first save until the 69th minute.
Dayton goalkeeper Kaelyn Johns helped keep her team within striking distance by making seven saves, leaving her feet to keep the ball out of the net on multiple occasions.
Maddy Williams also assisted Melchiorre's goal, marking the sixth time in the senior's career that she has scored one and assisted on another in the same game. With her 22nd career assist, she moved within one of the program's all-time record.
The Mussallem to Williams goal was essentially a carbon copy of the game-opening score from the DePaul win. Mussallem connected another long pass from the midfield stripe along the west sideline over the top of the defense. Williams needed only one touch to flick a diagonal ground shot past Johns and inside the left post. The Boilermakers improved to 16-3-3 when Williams has scored during her career.
A slot pass up the right flank from Maddy Williams set Melchiorre free for the late clincher. The freshman also scored with a diagonal shot inside the left post.
